BridgeWise does not have accounts, does not use analytics, and does not contain any third-party advertising, tracking or crash-reporting code. Everything you put into it - your boat’s dimensions, any gauge board readings you record - stays on your phone. We cannot see it, because it is never sent to us. We do not operate a server.
All of this is kept in the app’s own storage on your device and is removed when you delete the app.

We never receive any of it. There is no upload, no sync and no backup to us. If your phone is backed up to iCloud or a computer, this data is included in that backup, which is between you and Apple.
The app asks for location access only while you are using it. It uses your position to draw your boat on the chart, to work out which bridge is coming next, and how far away it is.
Your location is used on the device as it arrives and is not stored, not logged and not transmitted anywhere - not to us, and not to anyone else. If you decline location access the rest of the app still works; you simply do not get a boat on the chart.
Two things, neither of which carries anything about you:
Water levels from the Environment Agency. The app fetches river and tide levels from the Environment Agency’s public flood-monitoring API at environment.data.gov.uk. The request asks for a named monitoring station - for example Barton Broad - and contains nothing about you, your boat or your position. As with any request to any website, the Environment Agency’s servers will see your device’s IP address. This data is used under the Open Government Licence.
Map tiles from Apple, only if you ask for them. The app’s own chart is drawn on your phone from data included in the download, and needs no network at all. If you switch the map to Apple’s “Map” or “Satellite” view, Apple Maps fetches imagery for the area you are looking at, which means Apple receives that request. That is covered by Apple’s own privacy policy, and you can avoid it entirely by leaving the map on “Chart” - which is the default.
The app contains no third-party software development kits. Apart from Apple’s own frameworks, all the code is ours.
If you turn on reminders, they are scheduled and delivered by your phone. Nothing is sent to a server, and no push notification service is involved. You can turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings.
The app is a boating tool and is not directed at children. We do not collect anything from anyone, of any age.
Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data an organisation holds about you, including rights of access, correction and erasure. Because we hold no personal data about you at all, there is nothing for us to give you a copy of, correct or delete - and no request you can make to us that your own phone cannot answer more directly. To erase everything the app holds, delete the app.
If you think we have handled your data improperly you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
If the app ever gains a feature that sends data off your phone - the most likely candidate is pooling gauge board readings between boaters, which is designed for but not built - this policy will be updated before that feature ships, and the change will be described in the app’s release notes. The date at the top of this page tells you which version you are reading.
